A 19-year old boy from Opol, Misamis Oriental had drowned and died after rescuing three drowning victims swimming at the turbulent portion of the West Philippine Sea in a beach resort here on Sunday.
Rovic Valcalares, 19, from Cagayan de Oro City was among the teenagers who were on- the- job training at a shipbuilding and bridge construction company in Pasig City. He went swimming at a resort in Agwawan in Barangay Sisiman. He and some companions rescued the three beach-goers who shouted for help as the water became turbulent. But after they rescued the three beach-goers, the victim was swept away by strong waves and disappeared.
The three beach-goers who were shouting for help were not companions of the said victim but from a village in Mariveles.
Rescuers found the victim's lifeless body at around 5 a.m. Monday in the mouth of small river near the sea in Agwawan. The Philippine Coast Guard assisted the rescue operations.
