President Rodrigo Duterte announced at the 10th anniversary rites of the East Mindanao Command in Davao City that despite many controversies have been arising and thrown over him and the PNP on the administration's war on drugs, the president is still in full support for the PNP especially to Chief Director "Bato" Dela Rosa.
On Friday, President Duterte said "Bato" is upstaging him in being "mayabang."
According to Duterte: "Alam mo si Bato, nauunahan na ako sa yabang...Iyan ang style ko e. "Sinunod na nga niya, pati tuloy ako hindi na makasalida, limitado na ang papel ko."
This is after "Bato" made headlines when he urged drug users to kill drug lords and burn their houses in a speech in Iloilo, which was later clarified by Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella saying that it was simply a passionate statement.
President Duterte ended the speech by saying that he had known "Bato" since his youth days as an officer in Davao. He also said the chief, his wedding grandson, has his full support.
"He is simply loyal to the Republic of the Philippines, not to me... You nurture the love for the country and then you are ready to die for it," Duterte added.
