Tsunami-Like Typhoon Battered South Korean City Of Busan

Powerful typhoon Chaba ravages southern parts of South Korea with heavy rains, violent wind, and tsunami-like waves causing flight cancellations and flooding streets.

The port in the city of Busan was shut for a second day as Chaba whirled past and headed east towards Japan. An official at the country's biggest port said it was expected to reopen later in the day.

More than 25,000 houses on the island had their power supply disrupted, the Yonhap news agency reported, while Busan city announced the closure of 900 schools.

Five people were killed in Busan and Ulsan, media reports said. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security put the death toll at three with three missing.

Dramatic footage aired by the YTN news channel showed six crew members from a docked ferry being swept off a pier and into the sea by a giant wave in the southern port of Yeosu. All six were later rescued.
